Sophisticated investor

A sophisticated investor can be classed in two ways.

First an investor can be sophisticated by simply having a lot of investment capital. This is the case when investing in pre-IPO (or private) shares, the amount the investor must have to be considered a sophisticated investor will vary depending on who the governing body is but it is typically around a net asset value of over 2.5 million and a yearly earnings over 80 thousand.

Second, a sophisticated investor is someone who has experience and/or credentials in trading and should be profitable within that experience time frame (an investor who is not profitable would be hard to categorized as sophisticated).
