Tick test rules

Tick test rules refer to the SEC imposed restrictions on short selling. These rules are intended to protect the price of a stock when the price is falling. The rules state as follows: A short sale can only be made when either 1) The sale price of the stock is higher than the last trade price (uptick trade) or 2) if there is no change in the last trade price, the previous trade price must be higher than the price that is preceded (zero uptick)
