Tunneling

Tunneling is where a majority shareholder/high-level insider directs company assets/business to themselves. This is an illegal activity since it cannibalizes the company's value to benefit that one individual.

Tunneling examples are: excessive compensation, asset sales (Conrad Black saga), personal loan guarantees (a favorite with politicians who uses the government to back up the loan and in return they get a "party contribution"), etc.
